Cash row ‘will not halt Eurovision’BBC News
The contest is being held in the Baltic state of Latvia, where host city Riga had threatened to slash funding because of a spending row with the country’s government. But a Eurovision Song Contest spokesman said there “can be no doubt” the contest will take place at the Skonto Hall in Riga on 24 May. The city landed the show after jazz singer and law graduate Marie N became the first contestant in Latvian history to win last year. Doubts about Latvia’s ability to pull off the glitzy show began to surface almost as soon as last year’s final, in neighbouring Estonia, was over.

A prize for Eurovision
The prize was given by the Estonian Trade Council and it’s named Friend of Export of Estonia 2002. The reason for giving it to ETV was that the Eurovision Song Contest helped to introduce Estonia to the world in the best way.

Maja Blagdan will participate in Dora
In addition, four reserve entries have been selected. Maja Blagdan, who also participated in the Croatian national final of 1997 with the third placed entry Za nas and was the runner up behind Put in 1993 with Jedini moj, is the most prominent name on the list together with Emilia Kokić, who actually was a part of the quintet called Riva who secured the Eurovision victory for Yugoslavia in 1989, for the first and so far last time, by singing Rock me, loved and hated by Eurovision fans. She also took part in 2001, where she ended right behind Vanna by singing Ljepota in a duet with Adalbert Turner-Juci. Among former participants in the Croatian final Dora, one can find the national final veteran Alen Vitasović, who ended sixth in 2002 with Ja san Istrijan and ninth in 2000 where he sang Ja ne gren.

Spain: one of these songs to Riga?
One of these songs will be the song for Riga. In the meantime, record company Vale music confirmed the list. According to eurofestival. net, the Spanish broadcaster searched for high quality songs to avoid a situation like last year in Tallinn.

Four finalists have been selected for the UK entry in The Eurovision Song Contest. More than 30,000 people voted for the four, who were announced on The Ken Bruce Show on BBC Radio 2. Chosen from eight entries, the finalists will go through to the last stages of the competition where they perform live on Song For Europe in March. He endured the German occu-pation of World War II and attended the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts after the war. His career as a painter was short; he explained to Rock & Folk magazine: "I wanted to have an artistic genius, and all I had was talent. " After a song he wrote won the Eurovision song contest, the availability of whiskey and wild wild women soon convinced him that he had the genius to become a star of stage and screen. He wore a toga in a movie called "The Revolt of the Slaves. " His affair with Brigitte Bardot was well-publicized — she recorded his songs ("Harley Davidson") and he appeared on her prime-time television show. Francoise Hardy, France Gall, Catherine Deneuve, Petula Clark, Vanessa Paradis, Zizi Jeanmaire and Juliette Greco covered his songs. Most of his friends were women.
