“In the end, it’s only a damned song contest. ” Turkey is no stranger to people making a fuss over seemingly unimportant things. However, the East-West conundrum at the heart of the Eurovision furore is also symptomatic of a deeper identity crisis, one fuelled by Turkey’s status as a Muslim but secular country and its position at the crossroads between Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The dispute may also recall for Westerners the recent fuss over MPs’ wives wearing their Muslim headscarves to events attended by the secular elite. At the highest levels of Turkish society, the headscarf represents an Islamist threat to the foundations of the pro-Western republic. “We have to be comfortable with who we are,” Ms Erener says. We can be as good as Europeans, but we are not Europeans.

tv News. Latvian Television (LTV) gives now more details about the effects this stage is able to perform. The show’s stage was designed by Aigars Ozoliņ?. This stage is said to be using quite the same visual technologies as the Estonians used last year in Tallinn: The stage itself will be without colour – grey, silver and black tones will be used, because the various colours of light will look best against those backgrounds. Colours will emerge through high-technology lights and video effects.

The reason for the visit was not explained by the rumour making person but the sight of Mickey singing his wee heart to , ?We?ve got the world tonight!? might happen sooner than you think to our wee town, so keep the eyes peeled for the Mickey crew and keep reading cause this reporter is determined to find out the truth behind the rumour!Church collections: Something that?s certainly not a rumour is the church collections, which are for the very serious organisations of Concern and St Vicente de Paul. The collections are due in our parish until the weekend of the May 10-11, as they are doing the rounds in the other parishes before they reach ours. Keeping with a church theme the blessing of the graves is coming up soon on the horizon and it doesn?t seem all that long ago when they were last on, as the old saying goes, ?time is flying. ? Also the ceremonies in St Patrick?s, Crossmaglen, over the Easter period were very reverent and beautiful and all those involved in the production of the mass must be commended.

I enjoy all of them but prefer DJ-ing because of the interaction with the crowd, and that’s what I started with. What do you think of the UK club scene?
Don’t really know it, but I’m hoping to get some more gigs because I’ve heard the UK is meant to be crazy, and the music is really cool. What’s your view of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest?
It’s a tradition and it’s really entertaining to watch. If I have time I will watch it for the laughter value. What do you think of the current state of the UK charts? Does chart success in the UK mean anything special to you? Sure – UK chart success means a lot to me. I watched Top of the Pops when I was younger, and a lot of UK artists are successful in Germany. What are your aspirations for the coming year?
The UK is far behind with my releases.

On the matter of organising his work, some put a question here. He needs strong persons around him – managerial barons. Though he took the producers’ course some years ago, he would not be the ideal choice to run Eurovision or do the General Election. His career path is such that he has always attained what he has gone for. He is the only DG to have come from the programme area; others came from the operational areas. The producers were happy about that, even though they knew he was a corporation man. He is more a conceptual than a creative person.
