Honeypies, the group consisting of the 10-year old Rebecca Laakso and eleven-year-old Julia Urban, will represent Sweden with song Stoppa mig. Meanwhile, Sweden started the preparations for the Melodifestivalen 2004, the selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul. The Swedish television expects to have more than 3,000 entries now. Among possible submitters of songs are, if we may believe the rumors, Andr?s Esteche, Barbados, Sanna Nielsen, Pandora, Jan Johansen, Shirley Clamp, Lina Hedlund, Pernilla Wahlgren, ?sten med Resten, Sarek, the Brandsta City Sl?ckers and Fame.

Previous winners have included France Gall, Lulu, Sandie Shaw, ABBA, and the never to be forgotten Bucks Fizz. The contest came to Denmark in 2001 (this year?s competition took place in Latvia), where director Marina Zenovich charted the progress of local musical heroes Tanel and Dave (the latter actually born on the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba), representing Estonia with the song Everybody. Will they win? Or will the pressure be too much to bear against established Eurovision powerhouses like Greece, Luxembourg, or Turkey, who won it all this year with the stirring pseudo-feminist anthem, Everywhere That I Can? If the tension doesn?t kill you, some of the performances probably will. 7 pm Cinemax

(Neither the original film nor this sequel should be confused with Michael Keaton?s bizarre family-friendly feature of 1998 bearing the same name, though inevitably some shell-shocked parent will make the mistake. ) No, I haven?t seen this one — surprisingly, this is Jack Frost 2?s cable debut — but the original creative team behind the first film returned for the sequel, including director Michael Cooney, so the potential for entertainment (not to mention bloodshed) is high. Apparently our old pal Jack can now withstand tropical heat, so when the survivors of the first film take a Caribbean vacation, he?s, erm, hot on their heels.

THOSE of us hurtling towards, and indeed those who have directly hit middle age, will remember only to well the Eurovision Song Contest of the ’70s and early ’80s. Back then, there was no post-modern irony in witnessing men (or indeed women) with false chest hair singing ‘I love you baby, love you me too honey, Yeah’ – in Yiddish. Younger readers should not mock but note that this was an era when it was simply thought the Village People were being flamboyant and Boy George was a gas ticket. To us, such Euro entries were poor but never to be ridiculed – there for the grace of God and all that. There was one country, however, where we did allow ourselves a little smile at from time to time and that was Portugal.

“Erskine started work with Riverdance in the summer of 1994 and became full time executive producer for all Riverdance productions the following year. The veteran producer, who has worked in the entertainment industry across the world for over 30 years, said: “It’s an honour to perform at such a prestigious venue as the Great Hall of the People, which is a symbol of glory, echoing the spirit of the show. “Riverdance started as a seven-minute interval show at the Eurovision Song Contest in late April 1994, broadcast from Dublin to more than 300 million viewers in Europe. The response to the short live performance was so overwhelmingly positive that plans were made to develop it into a full stage show. Bill Whelan, who composed the original music for the Eurovision Song Contest spot, decided to fulfil a long-standing ambition and incorporate music and dance from other cultures “to reflect the Irish diaspora of the great emigrations of the 19th century. “In February 1995, Riverdance opened as a two-hour show at the Point Theatre in Dublin, produced by Moya Doherty and directed by John McColgan. Since then, it has spread like wildfire all over the world, delighting people with its wonderful music and spectacular dance steps… “Riverdance started as a seven-minute interval show at the Eurovision Song Contest in late April 1994, broadcast from Dublin to more than 300 million viewers in Europe.
