But journalistic integrity, as well as authorial envy, compels me to break the silence and also to confess to my seedy role in her past. Aeons ago – before Nell McCafferty became a pop guru, when I was still trying to finish my first novel and Cecelia Ahern was just a journalism student in Griffith College, when You’re a Star did not exist. Ireland’s entry for Eurovision was then selected over a night rather than a whole TV season. We still had the National Song Contest though we had sexed it up in name to Eurosong. In 2000 Ireland’s Eurovision reputation was in shreds. We hadn’t won the goddamn thing for three years. There was even a threat that if we didn’t get our act together again we might be ignominiously relegated… Ireland’s entry for Eurovision was then selected over a night rather than a whole TV season. There was even a threat that if we didn’t get our act together again we might be ignominiously relegated. In the country’s time of need there appeared out of the musical undergrowth a young heroine who was intent on saving the nation’s dubious reputation. The young woman was called Cecelia – not to be confused with Celia – and she was the Taoiseach’s daughter (and Miriam’s too).

Many policemen, tourists and fans?

On this roadtrip I felt the same thing with just two exceptions. No police and no tourists. But I met a fan, who was actually a simple Estonian aware of what is going on. She was hitch-hiking home from her parents house… Radio playing ?Surrounded? before, after and during the lunch. Perfect timing for a new album presentations, people running around with posters with a number 900 7701, cars driving around with posters with a number 900 7701. Maybe it was too much? Too desperate?

Maria-Ithaca has tried to enter the Eurovision stage several years already. No luck again after Koit Toome and ?Mere Lapsed?. The dissapointment and frustration was painted into her face with darkred colors. Keep on trying is all I could wish!

What happened to Hatuna and Sofia Rubina? With their voices they could compete Mariah Carey some day? It surely was one of the mysteries this year. I wouldn?t say anything about the others.

Viewers, by a telephone voting system, are selecting a “Star” to sing the Irish song in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. Along the way a lot of young boys and girls are getting themselves hurt and reduced. There were auditions, you see, with telephone polling along the way. Almost all – but not all! – the finalists are very definitely not stars. Most are amateur clones of the limited boyband craze started by Boyzone.

Culture & Lifestyle | 02.09.2004 Capturing Turkish Culture’s…Deutsche Welle
The sheer wealth of talent that’s blossomed on the Bosphorus in recent years is finally getting the platform it deserves. From classical to pop music, stand-up comedy to contemporary dance and traditional to modern art, the distinguishing feature of today’s Turkish culture has always been its inspirational juxtaposition of western and eastern influences — a quality perfectly captured in the Simdi (Now) Now festival’s eclectic program. Co-initiator Nilgün Mirze from the Istanbul Foundation for Art and Culture said her organization has always been far busier importing European culture to Turkey rather than exporting Turkish culture to the rest of Europe. The interest simply wasn’t there.

500 000 people watched the show and a little bit less than 20 000 votes was received. If the jury would have voted, Maarja would be Estonias’ representative in Istanbul 2004. The teams ask several questions in they public letter which media received today.

Andorra: Crec to second roundesctoday.com
Previously, the songs Jugarem a estimar-nos, Vine and Terra already qualified for that. Next week two other songs, Confia en mi en En quedar?, will try to get to the last six songs in the Andorran preselection. Short fragments of all songs that have participated so far can be heared on the site of RTVA.
