Despite some evidence to the contrary Abba appears unlikely to feature in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The internet and music industry have been abuzz with rumours that the Swedish pop group would be involved in this year’s song quest being held in Istanbul next week. The event would mark the 30th anniversary of Abba winning Eurovision in 1974 with Waterloo which helped launch their reign as the biggest-selling pop artists of the 1970s. The running order for Eurovision includes Abba according to SBS television which screens the event in Australia. “Eurovision have given us a detailed minute-by-minute schedule” an SBS spokesman said. “There’s a three-minute prerecorded segment marked ‘Abba’. But no one from Eurovision can tell us what they will actually do… The internet and music industry have been abuzz with rumours that the Swedish pop group would be involved in this year’s song quest being held in Istanbul next week.
