The song sung partly in Ukrainian and partly in English is a modern take of traditional Ukrainian motifs common to the Carpathian region of Ukraine. Ruslana was accompanied by a group of dancers in leather costumes. This was Ukraine’s first victory in the Eurovision Song Contest. Ukraine having won this year’s contest will host next year’s 50th Eurovision Contest in May 2005. The second-place winners were the performers of Serbia and Montenegro and Greece came in third. In addition to Ruslana’s victory last Saturday Ukrainians are also excited about Jana Klochkova who won two gold medals at the Madrid European Championship one in the 200 meter individual medley last Thursday and one for the 400 meter medley on Monday and about Denys Sylantyev’s two gold medals in a quick succession there. * * * The “Ukrainian Week” at the Pinebrook Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Venice was a huge success.
