Congratulations: Katrina Leskanich interviewesctoday.com
My usual preparation for an event of this kind is to lie in a darkened room, sipping green tea and watching old movies. Do you have to study hard now to learn all about the history of ESC?
Since winning the competition in 1997 I have performed at many ESC related shows and met dozens of the stars and heard them perform their songs. People often give me Eurovision books as gifts so I have brushed up a bit on my ESC knowledge. Have you and Renars met each other before?
We never had the pleasure to meet in the past but when we met two weeks ago we clicked immediately and I think we make a good, confident and fun team. Talking about the Eurovision history – How did it feel to win the contest?
When they announced Katrina and the Waves the winners of the Eurovision song Contest, Ronan Keating immediately took me by the hand and led me to the stage to reprise Love Shine A Light. I think if he had not been there to anchor me down I might have flown away. I felt very high and very happy… People often give me Eurovision books as gifts so I have brushed up a bit on my ESC knowledge. Have you and Renars met each other before?

When they announced Katrina and the Waves the winners of the Eurovision song Contest, Ronan Keating immediately took me by the hand and led me to the stage to reprise Love Shine A Light. I think if he had not been there to anchor me down I might have flown away. I felt very high and very happy. The celebrations went on until 5:00 am and we shared a few cigars and Black Velvets (Guinness and Champagne) with Terry Wogan back at the hotel. I had to get up at 6:30 the next day for Breakfast television but I couldn?t have slept anyway.

New releases of Walters & Kazha and Brainstormesctoday.com
lv News. The Latvian duo Walters & Kazha have released their first album The war is not over containing their Eurovision Song Contest entry, a cover version of the Olsen Brother’s Fly on the wings of love as well as 13 other songs. Although the album is available now in Latvia only, it is intended to be distributed in other countries, too. Before New Year’s Eve, the CD is going to be released in Lithuania where the duo has achieved popularity and and their songs have been among the most played on radio stations. Brainstorm’s latest CD Cetri krasti (Four Shores) has reached platin status in Latvia (15,000 ex sold).

What a load of ballsThe Age
Those who got up in the early hours to watch the events fromLeipzig, Germany, will know I’m not just talking about the shock ofthe Socceroos being grouped with Brazil, Croatia and Japan, but theeven-greater shock of the World Cup draw itself. I mean, really, soccer balls referring to themselves in thefirst person? Mullet-sporting illusionists prancing about like thelove child of Steve Irwin and Riverdance’s Michael Flatley? I’mstill sleeping with the lights on. The annual horrors of Eurovision notwithstanding, the aboveweirdness was not foreshadowed during the opening minutes. Asanyone might have predicted, the preamble before the draw (theGerman-to-English translation was conveyed in an unsettlingstaccato by an unseen Les Murray) exuded the kind of atmosphereonly a room full of middle-aged men in suits can provide. Not even the Farrah flicks and teal-coloured frock of co-hostand supermodel Heidi Klum livened up proceedings. (Of course, thismay or may not be because she wasn’t, in fact, Heidi Klum, but anandroid cunningly built in her image. Her manner of deliverysuggested this might not be as far fetched as it sounds.

Rosenblum finally joins KnessetJerusalem Post
Rosenblum was born to a working-class family in Petah Tikva. She left her modeling career at an early age to open a cosmetics company. In 1983, Rosenblum participated in a preliminary round of the Eurovision song contest with what was to become her hit single, “Always a Woman. Just minutes after Rosenblum took her seat, Rivlin launched a special Knesset session to honor MK Avraham Shochat (Labor), who announced several months ago that he planned to resign from the Knesset. Shochat has repeatedly delayed his departure from the Knesset to take part in the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court. “I want to thank everyone for the warm sentiments and express how happy I stand here, on the last occasion when I will address the Knesset, said Shochat. “I am proud of the nearly 40 years of service I have given this country and I am truly happy of the role I played.

5 Magnificent Passover Resorts to choose fromJerusalem Post
Those not making the cut this year include perennial list-topper Britney Spears. Among Israelis, Mali Levy failed to appear on this year’s list despite a hit new single, “Bye Bye,” whose accompanying video features the singer and model in a number of revealing outfits and dance poses. Also omitted is Shiri Maimon, the blonde Kochav Nolad runner-up who’s been a fixture on Israeli TV since placing fourth at this year’s Eurovision song contest. A 28-year-old brunette from Sderot, Bohadana can thank her good looks and popularity with Israeli voters for her cover-girl status in this month’s Blazer. Editors note that a number of other topics are dealt with in the magazine’s current issue, including the political race between Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Labor party chief Amir Peretz. “Fair enough,” they write, “but who would you go with on the cover?”

Ukrainian Parties Set for the ElectionsKommersant
?

There are six parties in the pro-presidential bloc. Along with Ekhanurov on the voter list are Secretary of the Security Council Anatoly Kinakh (No. 2), two deputy prime ministers (Stanislav Stashevsky and Vyacheslav Kirilenko), five ministers, head of 1 + 1 television Olga Gerasimyuk and winner of the Eurovision song contest Ruslana Lyzhichko. Unlike the Party of the Regions and the Timoshenko Bloc, Our Ukraine’s party congress was open to the press. At present, it can expect about 100 seats in parliament. Party leaders expect that figure to grow. It has the best chances of forming a successful coalition.

Australia preview: Hiddink’s magical skills provide key to hopes…Sunday Times – The Sunday Times
PLAYER TO WATCH Marco Bresciano, the Parma midfield player, is capable of unlocking a defence with intricate passes or his dead-ball expertise. MANAGER Hiddink’s guile in taking Holland and South Korea to the World Cup semi-finals may be legendary, but the Dutchman has an understated humour to boot. If the World Cup draw now appears to be as cheesy as the Eurovision Song Contest, Hiddink did his best to impersonate Terry Wogan. “I liked the magician who made the woman disappear — sometimes you need a machine like that at home,” Hiddink quipped. After the last World Cup, so many South Koreans flocked to his home village of Varsseveld that they created Guuseum, a museum of his memorabilia. One Varsseveld publican is so keen to attract Australians that he has applied to have some of the exhibits in his pub.
