Many Eurovision fans were disappointed to hear the news that Monaco wouldn't take part in 2007, even though their eventual withdrawal hasn't changed the fact that 2007 will be the largest contest yet, with 42 countries participating. Austria withdrew from the 2006 competition, but showed the contest live and returned for 2007, meaning that it's possible that Monaco could do a similar thing and return in 2008, wherever that may be held! Monaco returned to the competition in 2004, 25 years after their last participation. However, they failed to make it out of the bottom 5 of the semi with any one of their 3 entries in the past 3 years.

Bedikyan was forced to return to Istanbul and could not join his band. He insisted he was singled out and mistreated despite his Turkish citizenship, because he is a member of Turkey’s minority Armenian community. Turkey had formally requested information on Bedikyan’s allegations from Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, according to a Turkish Foreign Ministry official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of rules that bar civil servants from speaking to journalists without prior authorization. A similar request had been made with the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara, the official said.

Sorry, wrong continentwww.Freace.de
Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak declared that Israel is "a villa in the middle of the jungle" (the Arab jungle, of course), and this attitude is shared by practically all our politicians. Tsipi Livni likes to talk about the "dangerous neighborhood" in which we are living, and the chief advisor of Ariel Sharon once said that there will be no peace until "the Palestinians turn into Finns. "

Our soccer and basketball teams play in the European leagues, the Eurovision song contest is a national event in Israel, 95% of our political activity is focused on Europe and North America. But the phenomenon extends far beyond the political arena – this is a "world view" in the literal sense. In our world, Israel is a part of Europe. In the 50s, when I was the editor of the news magazine Haolam Hazeh, I once published a cartoon that I am still proud of: it showed the map of the Eastern Mediterranean, with an arm projecting from Greece and holding scissors that cut Israel off from Asia. It is a pity that I did not add a second drawing, showing Israel being attached to the shore of France or, preferably, Miami.

World’s press mistakenly announce England cricketing defeat,…The Spoof – The Spoof (satire)
He immediately called his colleagues at the newspaper, who at first dismissed the reports as "the drunken ravings of a fantasist". Headlines such as "Shame of Flintoff's Flops against mighty Australia" in The Telegraph, "Woeful England beaten to a pulp by cruising Aussies" in The Daily Mail and "What a bunch of twats" in The Sun were transformed by the evening editions into glowing tributes to "Freddy's heroes" and "Gallant England". Meanwhile The Mirror urged knighthoods for the entire team and for Duncan Fletcher to coach all national sports teams and write this year's Eurovision song contest entry. Accusations of hypocritcal, two-faced reporting were rejected as "preposterous", "ridiculous", "absolutely true" and "what would you like me to say?" by reporters. The story above is a satire or parody.

A very rare Coward, more class distinctions and Ben Whishaw on screen……Stage
Though you would have thought that there might be more than 19 hardy souls – including the director and myself –with enough curiosity to take it in at the 45-seater Finborough, even on the eve before Christmas Eve, we were the lucky ones; for this was not only an astonishingly mature play about an imploding relationship between a couple both of whom have artistic aspirations, but Tim Luscombe’s exquisitely-judged in-the-round production also did it proud. (And we were able to do something that Coward never did himself – he never saw it onstage). Luscombe, who has resourcefully previously given successful life to neglected Coward plays like Easy Virtue and Point Valaine, has weathered a curiously chequered career of his own – after early West End successes with Easy Virtue and Stoppard’s Artist Descending a Staircase (that both transferred from the King’s Head, with the latter also going to New York), as well as his own play EuroVision, first seen at the Drill Hall and subsequently transferring to the Vaudeville, he hasn’t been in the West End mainstream that seemed to be his destiny for a while now; that position seems to have been taken by his younger brother Christopher instead (who curiously also made his West End directorial debut with a rare Coward, when he directed Star Quality at the Apollo in 2001). But Tim’s production of The Rat Trap confirms his rare abilities to not only uncover a rare gem but also to give it an utterly convincing inner and outer life. Meanwhile, a sense of separate but colliding lives is amazingly animated in Duckie’s dinner-theatre-with-a-difference, The Class Club, at the Barbican Pit.

Still resentful of mistreatment, Bedikyan dismisses Azeri excusesTurkish Daily News – Turkish Daily News (subscription)
?I went to Azerbaijan not to give an outdoor public concert attended by 10-15,000 people but to perform on two special nights at Baku’s G?listan Palace attended by only a VIP audience,? Bedikyan told the Turkish Daily News in an interview. Turkey formally sought information both from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry and the Azerbaijani Embassy here with regard to Bedikyan’s allegations. Ankara’s move came after the young pianist filed verbal and written complaints with the Turkish Foreign Ministry. ?It’s really ridiculous that [Azerbaijani authorities] give the lack of a visa as a justification for their refusal to grant me entry, but everyone knows that a passport is sufficient for all citizens of the Turkish Republic to enter Azerbaijani territory,? Bedikyan said.
