08Dear Sir,I was wondering what your article “Media ignore Cyprus Eurovision effort” is based on, and was surprised to read that we were not available this morning. We did not receive a call or email from any of your editors, and none of our “broadcasting officials” have made such comments after the show. We had about 50 accredited journalists at the event, a couple of well-attended press conferences, camera crews from several of the participating countries, several press agencies and coverage across Europe. The Junior Eurovision Song Contest on Cyprus was also the most successful ever on YouTube! Obviously, the size of the event cannot be compared to the adult Eurovision Song Contest, but there is no reason to be unsatisfied at all.

Their song “Bzzz,” distinguished by its originality, attracted the attention of the whole concert hall in Lemesos (Limassol), Cyprus as well as TV viewers. In Georgia, the concert was broadcast by Georgian Public Broadcasting. The Wasps were sixth in the running order at Lemesos. Voters from 15 European countries, including Russia, Belarus and Lithuania, gave the highest scores to Georgia’s representatives.

Media ignore Cyprus Eurovision effort

08Broadcasting officials at the EBU are understood to be “totally stunned” at the failure of Saturday night’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest to receive any international press coverage. Despite costing millions of euros and being transmitted in several EU countries, nearly 100% of all media across the continent ignored the event. The EBU press officer was unavailable for comment this morning. Only a handful of Eurovision enthusiast blogs commented on the show, with the event being completely blanked by every single news provider in Europe, Asia, Africa, America and the Middle East. A local media expert told the Gazette that even she was surprised nothing at all had been written.
