Picking up on Lord Kitchener’s call to arms from the recruiting posters of World War 1 the programme Your Country Needs You is the beginning of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s search to find an act that will bring home Eurovision glory from Russia. The programme will showcase Eurovision-wannabes and their quest to become the UK representative in Moscow in 2009. The singers on view are some of the many entries which flooded into the BBC following a nationwide appeal by Webber. Lord Webber and his team of music industry professionals will decide on a shortlist of six finalists who will then go through to the live shows hosted by Graham Norton. And for the first time ever the internationally renowned composer will pick and mix the artistes with the aim of putting the best act forward for the UK. Once Webber has seen the acts he will begin work with a top lyricist to create the song for Eurovision.
