nly 13 countries in Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009Young talents between 10 and 15 years old from 13 countries will gather in Kyiv Ukraine this November to take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009 the European Broadcasting Union announced today. The live show hosted by national public broadcaster NTU is set to take place on Saturday 21st November. The 13 countries to be represented in the seventh running of the annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest are: Armenia (ARMTV) Belarus (BTRC) Belgium (VRT) Cyprus (CyBC) FYR Macedonia (MKRTV) Georgia (GPB) Malta (PBS) The Netherlands (AVR) Romania (TVR) Russia (RTR) Serbia (RTS) Sweden (TV4) and Ukraine (NTU). Swedish broadcaster TV4 returns to the competition after a year of absence. Last week the EBU Steering Group for the event visited NTU in Kyiv to be informed about the preparations for the upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest. “The Ukrainian organisers are eager to produce the best ever Junior Eurovision Song Contest. ne thing is for sure; Europe can already look forward to a spectacular family entertainment show to take place on the 21st of November” said Svante Stockselius Executive Supervisor of the event on behalf of the EBU.

Pop-singer Sergei Lazarev picked up the best male artist award beating last year’s Eurovision winner Dima Bilan who collected the Muz-TV awards in 2007 and 2008. Bilan did win the best song award for his Eurovision hit “Believe” (independent label Misteriya Zvuka). A video for that song which featured Hungarian composer and violinist Edvin Marton and Russian figure skating star Yevgeny Plyushchenko was named the best music video. MakSim was named best female artist repeating last year’s achievement. The best album award went to the self-titled debut album by the girl band Ranetki (Megaliner Records) which became popular thanks to its members starring in a popular youth television series.

The album comprises 13 tracks. Bistra voda and its Russian and English versions figure in the tracklist. Regina represented Bosnia & Herzegovina at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Bistra voda placing 9th in the Final after qualifying from the first Semifinal where they achieved 5th place. Bistra voda can be found in their brand new album Vrijeme je as well as its Russian and English versions.

It’s like the Grammy’s MTV Awards and American Idol rolled into one: Every year European musicians and singers compete for the coveted Eurovision Song Contest granted to the best performing act around Europe. It was this contest that catapulted ABBA to international fame with Waterloo. This year a Jewish-Christian duet will head to Eurovision to represent Israel. The two women — one a Jewish Israeli with roots in Yemen and the United States and the other an Arab Israeli Christian are hoping to sing their hearts out with a message for Middle East peace. A star in her own right — in Israel and on international stages — Achinoam "Noa" Nini was approached by the Eurovision community asking her to sing at the 2009 contest.
